Understanding Cigar Lighter Warranties
Posted by Admin on 2/2/2012 to Lighter Repair
Cigar lighter warranties are like any other warranties. They're designed to make the product more appealing by demonstrating that the manufacturer stands behind their product to the point of being willing to replace or repair it for free should it fail. That being said, all warranties are conditional. When you purchase an item, make sure that you check the conditions on the warranty so that you know whether or not they manufacturer truly stands behind what they sell.

Some warranties are lifetime ones. Zippo is famous for these warranties and, as long as the damage wasn't caused by misuse, the company will usually repair or replace any of their lighters that end up failing. Other lighter companies have different arrangements, which oftentimes depend upon the price you paid for the lighter.

The best warranties for lighters will last for the life of the product. If it stops working properly because of a manufacturing problem or even wear and tear in many cases, the manufacturer will replace it for you. Always read the paperwork that comes with the high-end lighters that you buy. For example, the warranty might state that you need to include the receipt for the lighter when you return it because of a manufacturing problem.

You will find that with proper care and usage, most of the high-end butane and torch lighters are going to last for a long time. Make sure that you care for the lighter properly and keep the right amount of fluid in it to ensure a long life. If you are using the lighter primarily for cigars, and you don't use it very often, you might want to keep it in a special place near where you keep your cigars. This will ensure that it is safe, and that you don't lose it when you are out.

Some manufacturers will require that you bring or ship the lighter back to the original store you purchased it from for repairs. Others will want you to ship it right to them. Either way, make sure you include everything they ask for with the lighter so that your repair will be taken care of in a timely fashion. If you have a commemorative lighter-such as one that was given for military service-it may be irreplaceable so repair will be the only option. More common lighters may just be replaced by the manufacturer.
